Can Cuarassa

Can Cuarassa

The area known as Can Cuarassa is a reserve which is part of the S’Albufereta but located within the Pollença boundary. It is located on the seafront road from Port de Pollença to Alcudia with parking next to the very popular Can Cuarassa Restaurant.

It is a typical habitat with a few small lagoons where Black-Winged Stilts and Little Ringed Plovers breed and can be viewed from behind the screens but also surrounded by arable farmland which is good during the summer for various finches. It is a fantastic spot during migration and the last year has been amazing with plenty of Bee Eaters, Golden Oriole and Roller along with numerous Woodchat Shrikes. Just before the reserve entrance, there is a country lane to the right and here you will often see more than in the reserve itself.

In the spring Nightingale, Yellow Wagtails, Cettis’s Warblers and Corn Buntings breed along the lane but almost anything can turn up with the Booted Eagle and Osprey regularly seen. In June during the evenings, Eleonora’s Falcon can often be seen hunting low over the reserve in good numbers. Stonechats and Fan-tailed Warblers are present in good numbers as are Serins.
