Cases Velles

Cases Velles

Cases Velles is a sheltered valley on the road from Puerto Pollensa to the Cap de Formentor and is situated about half a mile ahead of the Formentor beach.

There is a car park on the left of the road with the entrance through some gates on the right next to a scout camp which looks private but isn’t. The route is used by locals to get to the beach. The views from the car park are fantastic with frequent sightings of both Eleanora’s and Peregrine Falcons above the rock face with both Crag Martins and Blue Rock Thrushes being seen all year round.

The fields adjacent are excellent for migrants with Golden Orioles, Pied Flycatchers, Red-Backed Shrikes and many warblers seen in the Spring. Across the road, you have the entrance to the estate and to the left of the gates are some large pines where Crossbills are abundant as well as many spotted Flycatchers and Serins. Once through the entrance gate, there is a long walk to the beach which passes through both conifers and mixed woodland and allows some views of the mountainside. Here you will find a fantastic assortment of birds with the resident Crossbills and Firecrests supported by a lot of breeding Warblers, Hoopoes, Blue Rock Thrush as well as many migrants in the Spring and Autumn. During the Summer you will often hear the Eleanora’s Falcons above the rock faces on the left with a view sometimes between the trees.
