Sa Barcassa

This is part of the S’albufereta and is located in the northern part on the way to Alcudia from Puerto Pollensa and just after where the sea enters the reserve and can be reached by bus from Puerto Pollensa.

There is not a proper car park but plenty of parking on the back road where you then walk to the reserve which is signposted.

Last year a new observation tower was built which is good for little egrets and long range views especially over the lagoons holding the Flamingoes in the winter as well as the many Egrets. To the left of the path to the hide is a small pinewood which holds a pair of Hoopoes as well as many Serins as well as a few Crossbills.

The path through the wood at the edge which has Stonechats. Corn Buntings and Fan-tailed Warblers now leads to a newly erected hide overlooking the northern lagoons which have a few mounds which have proved really good this Spring with rare migrants such as Collared Pratincole as well as resident Stone Curlews breeding Little Ringed plovers and good views of Purple Heron and Osprey, and this year Greenshank, Spotted Redshank both close up and recently Water Rail.
